What Happens When you
Send a Motivated Dentist to India . . .
from
Brad Milde, excerpts from his email updates while in
India during June
"As
far as the dental work, it went better than we could have
ever hoped.
Here are the
final numbers:
Over 800 applications of Fluoride varnish & all children
screened
81 children taken to the dentist
All 81 had their teeth cleaned with ultrasonic scaler
237 metal "amalgam" fillings
211 teeth extracted
Total price - 51,250 rupees or $1,165 dollars. I did a
rough, extremely conservative estimate of what this would
have cost in the United States, and it came up to be
somewhere close to $50,000 dollars. Dr. Abraham said he
would be willing to apply fluoride varnish on the children a
couple times a year, and he knows how to do it well. I also
tried to stress how important it is for the children to
brush at night. Each child that went to the dentist
got a new toothbrush or a "pul-tolecki" as they say in Tamil
and got instruction from the dental staff how to properly
brush their teeth...
Dr. Jay
assigned us basically a personal assistant/translator there
at the school, and let me tell you, this guy has been
AMAZING. His name is Murugan, or Martin, and he was raised
as an orphan there, but is getting ready to go to school...
What a guy, can't say enough about him, as he has been
serving and translating and arranging meals/vehicles/etc
tirelessly... So, Wednesday afternoon and all day Thursday
we screened every child at the Promised Land and applied
Fluoride Varnish. Friday, we took two busloads of kids, and
Dr. Selvi Kumar, Murugan, and sometimes Isaac accompany us.
That day started at 10:00am with the first trip, and the
second trip didn't get home until 11:00pm--long day...I can't say
enough about the dedication of the staff at the Promise
Land..."

Steve and Melissa
Hopkins in India Right Now
from
Steve and Melissa Hopkins (Seattle) in India right now until
the end of July
"We
have been here for two full days now and we enjoy all the
people we meet and work with. We have also met most of the
orphans. I have to say that meeting the orphans was an
incredibly overwhelming experience, especially at the
Promised Land. We turned the corner and there was a field
filled with about 1500 orphans. The sheer sight of it was
very moving. They were all in orderly rows and respectful,
yet it was hard for them to contain their enthusiasm when
they saw us. Suddenly 1500 children were waving at us and
vying for our attention. We met each of them one by one,
Melissa met the girls and Steve met the boys.
The kids all call us auntie and uncle and about 300 of them
live near where we are staying, so we are constantly
hearing, "Hello Auntie! Hello Uncle!" We found out today
that we will be teaching in both of the English medium
schools. The one near where we are staying and the one at
the Promised Land.
There is a
strange and different kind of beauty here, that is mostly
expressed when you see the joy on the kids faces. I am not
normally accustomed to seeing it in America, so it took me
awhile to see it here. But now I revel is how beautiful much
of this country is. Just different.

for the cows).

Sponsor
Question of the Month
A friend wants to sponsor a
child. How do they sign up and how do they get their child's
profile?
Send
them to the website
www.icmcindia.org to click on Sponsor a Child. Once
they create a new account and ask for a child, US Reps and India
Office Staff and the new sponsor automatically get an email.
India Office Staff will link the new sponsor to a child within a
few days. This automatically sends US Reps and the new
sponsor a welcome email with a child profile and instructions on
how to see the child's photo online. US Reps send a
welcome packet including a printed profile of the child.

Update
from Mrs Christy

“Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable
gift.”
2 Corinthians 9:15
The Lord is great that He enabled us to
enter a new academic year. All the
schools reopened on the first day of June
'06. many of the children of the House
of Peace who were gone to their native
places for summer vacation came back to our
place this month. On the very first
day of this month we had a thanksgiving
prayer meeting headed by Mrs Christy for all
the teachers of St. Basil Matriculation
School in which every Muslim and Hindu
teacher participated and it was a blessing
to everyone who participated. Std X
(high school graduation) results were
published on the 5th of June. 80% of
St Graham Memorial High School children got
passed (it is a pass/fail system). The
seven students who failed in Mathamatics and
Science will take another exam in July '06.
E. Saravan, sponsored child of Mrs and Mrs
Hodges, Australia, got school first rank
securing 403/500. At Salem Centre and
Eden Garden the result was only 41%.
Reexams will be given to those who failed.
Many failed in Maths and Science only.
Those who failed in XII-Std wrote thier
reexam on the 29th and 30th, '06.
Uncle Emmanuel, a Finnish missionary visited
the House of Peace on the 6th - 8th of June.
His visit was a blessing to us all.
His prayer and powerful message touched the
hearts of many children of the House of
Peace.
Mr Brad, from Arizona and Miss Aletta from
Mississippi came to our place on June 6 '06
and they both did a very good job for our
children in the area of dental care.
They both left Salem on June 23 '06.
Thier stay was a great blessing and
encouragement to all of us.
New admission and readmission work was going
on through this month in full swing.
485 children were newly admitted. Some
children left our orphanage as per their
parents/guardians wish. Till now
children are being admitted, readmitted and
left. Notebooks, books, uniforms,
shoes, slippers, and stationary items were
purchased and given to all the children.
Many new workers have been added to ICMC.
On the 10th of June, '06 there was
Youth Camp at St. Basil Church. All
the youth from ICMC took part in it.
Mr Joshua was the speaker. Our son,
Basil Bright, was the coordinator. Bright's
prayer, message and songs touched the hearts
of many youth. So also the message
given by Mr. Joshua, a young man, was great.
Joshua and his team taught many songs and
choruses to our children. A very good
lunch was served with chicken. All enjoyed
and were blessed by the Lord on that day.
Many accepted Christ as their Saviour.
Neva, our daughter, also extended her
service during her holidays for the children
of the House of Peace in the field of
medical care.
Bright and Neva went into every nook of the
children's needs and fulfilled the same for
the children. Bright conducts weekly
prayer meetings thrice in the three places.
Children dedicated thier lives to Christ.
In all the village churches (Mount Zion,
Konanchettiyoor, Devattipatti, Udayapatti,
Muthunaikanpatti) prayer meetings and
service were going on for His glory.
We are so thankful to every sponsor for
his/her valuable prayer, loving concern and
faithful financial support to our mission.
Yours in
His Vineyard,
Mrs. J. Christy

KIDS Get Creative
with Offering boxes, Coffee, and Oreos

At Spring of Life Christian
Church, the kindergarteners drop enough pennies into their
offering box to sponsor a child. You can see a profile of a
little boy on the box.

The Youth also sponsor a
teenager orphan through the proceeds of their coffee shop.
You can see her photo blown up and posted on the counter.
The Fifth and Sixth graders
just heard all about ICMC and India and experienced it with an
oreo game. Each team was divided into two sides, one with
oreos and one without. The team without the oreos had to
build a tower with oreos. But their friends had to get
them across the room to them. Synergy, sharing
resources, information, back and forth. Just like the east
and the west.
If you have an
event or trip or fun things to post for your state, church, school, or
organization, please contact Jeanne at
