Why My Father Started ICMC: Our Vision and Mission  by J. Basil Bright

My father (Rev. Dr. S. Jayaraj Krishnan) started an orphanage called ICMC with 12 orphans in 1988, and now we have more than 2000 children. The reason he started this orphanage because he himself was an orphan who lost his father and mother at a very early stage of his life and later on, he lost is younger brother and his elder sister, a year later. It was a time when my father’s grant father took my father to a Hindu priest who was a palmist. After reading my father palm, the palmist stated that “This boy is a curse for the whole family and is the root cause for the deaths of his family members, in order to remove the curse; he must be killed”. It was terrible time for my father as his own grandpa wants to kill him; they kick my father out of the house and refused to give food. In order to eat a meal a day he needs to make a mat out of coconut leaves. Some how even in the times of difficulties; he survived the situation. He used to go to the Hindu temple and pray hours together but none responded to his cry. My father Grandpa made my father to clean the idols and lick the dirty water to remove the curse within him. One day the neighbors around the village where my father lived saw the difficulty of this young boy, they informed it to a Godly man called Samuel who was about to start an Orphanage. Mr. Samuel came and took my dad to his orphanage and he was the 4Th orphan in that orphanage. Thank God for the godly man, Samuel who took care of my father in a good Christian way. Through Samuel my father heard about the love of Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior and gave his life to Christ in his high school and went on study God’s Living word and did His M.Div and got married to a girl whom he never met before, it was a typical Indian marriage.

One special day when my dad was in a bus stand waiting for the bus to come; he saw a girl poorly dressed, lying near him. That very moment God spoke to my father saying take care of her as I took care of you; that day on, my father started this orphanage with nothing in his hand but had the big fish ‘JESUS CHRIST’ who is the sources of everything.

Our Vision

Our vision is not only to feed the orphans and the poor but also to give them the Big Fish ‘JESUS CHRIST’ who can change their lives. The orphans feel the love of Christ when you Christian people visit them and show the love of Christ to them through you friendship.

I myself (Bright) had a great opportunity to play with them and to love them as a brother in Christ. It gives me a great joy to make them feel that they are taken care of and to make them laugh. The children in our orphanages hated by the world and by their parents. Some don’t have both their parents and some are prisoner’s children, prostitute’s children, leprosy’s children, and so on. We provide shelters for the widows and their children. We do all these because we love our neighbor as ourselves.

Least of all was very precious in the sight of God as it is clearly shown in the life of Christ Jesus. It makes me surprise that how important and precious the poor shepherds to our God as they were the first to hear the Good News of the birth of the Jesus through an angel. Why these poor shepherds are more important than the three kings? It shows how much our Lord gives important to the least. It does not stop there but in every action of the life of Jesus Christ there was compassion towards the poor and the needy.

According to the Jewish culture in a marriage, the good wine or the best wine will be served to the rich people and the worst wine will served to the poor but it was not the case when Jesus turned the water into wine in the marriage at Galilee. Jesus provided the best wine to the poor. This shows the love of Christ to the poor and the needy. We not only have the burden to help the poor but also to preach the Good News that there is life through Christ, the savior of our part of the world which hold 20% of the world’s population. There are millions who have never heard the Gospel even at once in some tribal groups all around India and each tribal group speak different language and have different culture as India has many languages with different cultures. Therefore we train native missionary in our Timothy training centre to preach and proclaim the Good News to their native groups. They are very effective as they are one among them.

WE TRY TO LIVE AS A LIVING SACRIFICE FOR OTHERS

I can conclude in saying, “Until God provides us we will provide the orphans and the poor. God is not against us therefore He is for us, He will provide us. We would do our best to reach the unreached population of the world with the good news of Christ and his love”

These are the four things you can do for us,
